Positive Outlook

I worked at IMI Precision Engineering full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

The company is very diverse culturally. There are so many different languages spoken and people are open to multicultural friendships. There is also plenty of opportunity to move up in the company, as long as you can communicate effectively in English. The jobs themselves are also not extremely difficult and the people who don't stay long are those don't like tedious tasks.

Cons

The ten hour days are sometimes daunting if you are assigned to a tedious task. Also at times there is unexpected mandatory overtime that can cut into personal time at home with family. Some people complain that minimum wage isn't enough pay for such long days.

Advice to Management

When temporary employees are let go, break it to them in private instead of in front of their fellow workers. Feelings can get hurt easily, especially for some who may have had a rough trial period and taken the experience hard anyway.

    Pros

    At the administrative and design level:

    * Competitive pay
    * Increasing business even through tough times.
    * Competent, friendly people. No evident backstabbing
    * Strong concern for safety and workplace quality
    * Employees have unsponsored sports activities or parties outside of work
    * An opportunity to learn
    * Reasonably well protected from investor-driven mindset
    * Moderate level of bureaucracy

    Cons

    At the administrative and design level:

    * Promotions go to people with a certain area of expertise, from the same university
    * Recently, too many layers of management.
    * Same upper management for >10 years. Well-intentioned, but too inbred. Change is incremental and bandaid-like.
    * Management sits above areas of expertise they appreciate, but can not understand or manage.

    At the work floor level:
    * Unpredictable work hours. Operations are not smooth. Slowly getting better.

    Pros

    Cool laid back job. No pressure. Its like a bank job - 7 to 4 no one asks you why did you leave early. good job security if you hold higher degree and finishes what ve you told.

    Cons

    No career advancement. Everybody is engineer. No hierarchy.

    Advice to Management

    Should improve interview process. Ask more about project and experiences instead of explaining how good the company is.
