Pros

Diverse culture. International Company with grandeur dreams to be the largest financial conglomerate in the world (but too cheap to execute). There are a lot of activities to participate - from the ING Marathon in New York to local charity events. Leaders like to talk the talk.

Cons

Death by committee. Entrepreneurial spirit has long been dead. I it is not in the explicitly permitted it is assumed to be prohibited by clueless clerks afraid to make any wave and be noticed. Many companies merged acting still as separate companies. Too lean.

Advice to Management

More indians less chiefs. Create career paths and infuse new blood. Promote from within. Require training but provide the time to learn (not after hours and weekends).

    Pros

Financially strong company with a focus on growth and increasing market share. They will be around for a long time. In the current day and age of reducing benefits to control costs, they came up with good ways to manage costs without pulling benefits away from employees. Good career path possible in some departments.

    Cons

Worked in an area of the organization that they decided to sell off, despite the outstanding performance of recent years. The costs incurred by a prior regime and their poor decisions as well as a chance to change focus and free-up capital were the motivating factors. Poor decision in a specific market that is seeing a dramaticly shrinking competitive environment where market share was easy to increase in a profitable manner. Current departmental management had a track record of outstanding success, but the company wanted to free up capital.

    Advice to Management

Look at the market before making rash decisions based on Wall Street pressures. Performance of individual departments should carry more weight of the decision than the perceptions outside the organization.
