Advice to Management

Please don't micromanage the SPEX team. As long as KPIs are hit, I don't understand why you have to focus on people on the phone during power hour. Some people are calling overseas while some people have call appointments -thus time differences should be considered.

Focus your time on retaining your employees and motivating them to be more productive and having company loyalty. You lose money for the company in that 1-2 months of training that you give, only to have them leave in the end.

And also, encourage inter-department communication. Everyone is dipping into the SPEX department's job. Delegate sales are selling tickets to vendors and also pitching for sponsorship instead of just selling to primary market. EQ is pitching to every enquiry and selling to both primary market and vendors instead of notifying SPEX of any vendor enquiry. SPEX can't sell to primary market, can't touch ringfenced enquiries, or even sell delegate tickets to vendors and yet SPEX is the one which takes the most beating when targets are not met.

The role of SPEX is to bring in the most money for the event but because the organization has everyone chasing after the same people with different carrots to dangle, it just ruins it for the company as a whole and for the long term.
