I worked at IRS as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent work experience and decent pay for an entry-level job, great environment with friendly colleagues, and the opportunity to help taxpayers navigate the complicated tax code

    Cons

Most employees are seasonal or temporary. As a temporary employee, I have to apply for the same position every tax season.

    Advice to Management

Provide better training for new employees and more opportunities for permanent, full-time employment.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at IRS full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Ability to take off. They are respectful of school schedules and family issues. It is a pretty relaxed environment.

    Cons

Constant change, strict rules, and no mobility due to budgetary constraints and time in grade requirements. Even with additional education you can not apply to upper level jobs if your current grade level does not meet the time in grade requirement.

    Advice to Management

Managers do not all share the same values and seem to be over worked. Cohesive management would aid in more structure.
