I worked at ITT Technical Institute full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

There are a few people who generally care about the students and want to see them better themselves. The education is hands-on and is a non-traditional approach to learning.

Cons

Where do I begin? I was an admission representative for this organization about five years ago. The educational component is thrown out the window when all they push are getting students in classes. The recruiting base of students they are trying to draw from are the lowest end of society. These are people who have never made over minimum wage their entire lives and you're supposed to sell them on a degree that costs more than a house by the time they're done to the tune of over $90,000 by the time they would be done with a bachelors degree? The atmosphere is so micro-managed to the point it's sickening. The upper management would constantly threaten their employees. Numerous complains were made against this director and still it took so many years to finally get her fired. They monitor EVERYTHING you do. Bottom line is that it's not an educational institution. If you have a pulse, they will try and find a way to push you into class. If you only show up a day, they can report great numbers to their corporate office in Indianapolis. They're a profit center, not an educational institution at this point. The school is run by sales people, not educators. All they care about is how they can best con you. The turnover rate, especially, in admissions, is riduculously high. If you're not meeting with at least two people a week, you will be fired in a short time period. Pay is terrible and there's no room to move up into better positions. It says a lot that the stock has dropped substantially. Bottom line, don't work here if you want to do meaningful work!

Advice to Management

Treat employees like an investment and help them grow instead of throwing garbage on the wall and seeing what sticks!! Treat students like they're an asset instead of a number!!!

"Micro managed, daily and weekly reviews, emphasize negative less coaching on positive, humiliating, high turnover."

I have been working at ITT Technical Institute full-time

    Pros

Good hours 9-6, must chose 2 days for night 12-9 and every other Saturday 9-2. Decent starting pay, no room for advancement or if you do, risk under performing and being fired. Employees are great and stick together, management must follow company rules and regulations. Helping students to find a technical career is a rewarding experience

    Cons

Micro management of phone calls, contacts, scheduling, interviews, application, acceptance, and returns for financial aid. Must have an average of 2 interviews per week or can expect to be fired. Under constant review more of a robotic job and less of an individual. Tier system of top three reps for the week will get all the best leads while the others struggle. A plan for failure.

    Advice to Management

Review your own performance, stock has lost half of value in 6 months, enrollment is down, employees from Academics and Recruitment are experiencing high turnover. Fire the entire executive staff and create a whole new culture. Present culture is not working and is doomed to fail.

I have been working at ITT Technical Institute full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay. Not a physically-demanding job. Coworkers are fun people. Nice facilities, decent parking.

    Cons

Remote upper management interferes with local marketing department employees' schedules, often with little warning. Little chance for advancement within the company. When asked about it directly, a middle manager informed us that they don't promote from within on a "losing team," ignoring the fact that more than a few individuals on the team were performing at or above the expected level. If you're unsuccessful in a particular role, but show skills that would suit a different position, you will be blocked from transferring (by policy) if you received a warning within the last 6 months related to your current position (even if it wouldn't apply to the skill set needed for the desired job). High turnover rate. Over the time I've been there, there's often been inadequate training, too. Oh, and the health insurance offered was terrible.

    Advice to Management

Don't override your people on the ground unless you need to. Let lower-level managers do their jobs. Listen to them when they tell you they (or their team) wants or needs something. You'll always get better performance when your employees trust you and have good morale.
