Pros

opportunities for professional and personal growth. The ability to help students succeed who have met with failures--academically and personally--in the past. A chance to make the difference in my chosen profession by being involved in the education of its future leaders.

Cons

Program is just being developed and can be intimidating for new instructor.

Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Maintain current level of enthusiasm and team involvement. Continue to maintain exceptionally high standards of both students and instructors.

    Pros

Relatively easy job after the first quarter when expectations are clearer. If you break down the pay per course hourly, the pay is decent, especially if you are granted a bonus for meeting numbers. Teaching is rewarding and you'll get to meet some great students.

    Cons

You're just a tool to the company. It's nearly impossible to get a full time position with salary and benefits. You're never sure if you'll be invited to teach in future quarters as your continued employment depends on your numbers (i.e., attendance rates, engagement rates, etc). Sometimes management uses scare tactics to keep instructors in line. Management can sometimes speak to instructors (especially adjunct instructors) contemptuously and continually reinforce the perception that they hold more power than you or that they could have your job at the snap of a finger.

    Advice to Management

Treat instructors like professionals; all instructors at this campus have master's degrees or higher and have experience in industry. Trust instructors to do their jobs- we're capable, intelligent individuals who know when deliverables are due (minor mistakes happen, but we're more than eager to fix them as soon as possible, as we know how important documentation is to the company). We really DO want to do a good job- and believe it or not- most of us really love the job! Encourage instructors and create a feeling of academia on campus instead of focusing on numbers, numbers, numbers. With inspiration, the numbers will come naturally!
