I worked at Illuminate Education full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Most of the team is comprised of passionate and driven people. I've made some life long friendships here.

    Cons

After the large lay off of some really key people, it has become clear that customers are no longer the focal point of the company. Purging those that were key points of contact for clients or pivotal people that kept clients happy and expecting already stretched-thin employees to pick up that slack, does not in instill confidence in clients that they will receive any level of care that resembles satisfaction. Not... to mention the fear the remaining employees have of being offed at any moment. Trusting the word of the CEO is long out the window when all promises of any kind seem to be met with fingers crossed behind her back.

    Advice to Management

Be careful where you place your importance. Money does not make a company a success. Happy clients that stay, employees that feel valued, and a moral backbone makes a successful company.

I have been working at Illuminate Education full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some really great people work here You get to help educators spend less time grading and more time getting useful data so they can help students Dog-friendly workplace Casual workplace (no dress code) Some positions can work remotely Free snacks/cold brew/kombucha

    Cons

The company has grown almost too quickly for its own skin Getting more corporate-feeling Faster turnover Layoffs of "most expensive" employees, regardless of actual worth to company

    Advice to Management

Don't layoff people just because they make more than others do - you lose valuable product knowledge, abilities, and client relationships when you do that.
