Pros

Used to be a company with high quality and high performance top management although with too much enphasis on the financial side

Cons

Current top management looks lost, lack direction and leadership. Company is more cyclical than management is willing to admit. Centralization of decisions is on the rise. Innovation is a disaster and as a consequence growth is far behind desirable even with acquisitions.

Advice to Management

Should develop sound strategies for business lines. People management and customer orientation still a lot to go

"Great but only for a two year stint, micromanagement and politics are exhausting"

I worked at Imerys full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Imerys will provide as much opportunity as you can handle. Nearly all positions are challenging and exciting. You will gain a lot of knowledge if you can handle the work load.

It is one of the best experiences you can get in finance because there is so much exposure to day-to-day operations.

The international exposure is a major upside.

The San Jose CA office recently relocated from Santa Barbara which housed the divisions World Minerals & Celite.

    Cons

In my opinion, micromanagement, arrogance and politics define the experience. The culture is similar to an accounting or consulting firm with minimal diversity and grueling work loads. Inspiration and creativity will not serve you well, instead focus on endurance.

Too few at Imerys have sufficient knowledge of markets, customers or products/technology. This may be because of high turnover in the positions that manage this information. Given this lack of knowledge-management, spreadsheets seem to be the main tool for strategic decisions.

Imerys is not family friendly, there are frequent disruptions to evenings and weekends. Meetings are routinely taken past midnight. Vacations are disrupted with conference calls and last minute requests.

Most positions exclusively manage-up, mentoring is virtually absent.

The closer your position is to a customer, the less likely it will be enjoyable, the closer your position is to the investor, the more likely you will find it rewarding.

    Advice to Management

Look at how much time managers are "managing up". Invest in knowledge management.

I have been working at Imerys as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It has very Large Plant. It gives the chance to have large exposure from Operations to marketing. It has Quite good big R&D lab even. One of the best places for people who are looking to enter to Mining Industry.
Moreover, here people are from different countries like france, India, USA etc. It gives the chance to interact with different cultures.

    Cons

As It is a very old plant, most of the machines are very hard to maintain. It is not that tech savvy plant. Things are bit messy here. Even people are from different cultures, dominating culture is USA not French. So, Overall culture is different from HQ, france.

    Advice to Management

Make it more centralized and systematic process for this plant. Things are not organized here. High need to spend some money on this plant.
