I worked at Independence Blue Cross full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good benefits, good people who work there, great downtown location, gym and cafeteria on-site, opportunities to get involved in 'extracurriculars' or other projects beyond your department (eg. United Way)

Cons

Several layers of management, takes months to get any change in place, do not promote quickly (at all)

Advice to Management

Look to your young employees to help spark change, don't spend so much money on consultants!

I have been working at Independence Blue Cross full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work life balance and amenities, relaxed culture, working in downtown Philly. Benefits are solid (obviously). Good training opportunities, great employee culture.

    Cons

Top-heavy with management. Constantly bringing in outside "hired guns" while nearly every young employee with half a brain is out within their first 3 years to make twice as much elsewhere. Left with the "lifers" who don't want to lift a finger, and director-level personnel running around doing their own "grunt work" with little or no staff to manage.

    Advice to Management

Promote people from inside. Get rid of the tired old farts. Stop it with the hired guns already, believe it or not, your young motivated lower level folks do want to help, but they don't want to do it for free.

I have been working at Independence Blue Cross full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

benefits, school, bonus and they people you work with.

    Cons

The pay is not great. The management is not great...

    Advice to Management

Just because they sya you are a manager and give you the job does not mean that you know more... just means they want a flunky
