Pros

Has excellent infrastructure across all the Indian development centers. The internal facilities are highly subsidized - quality food cost fractions of market price in all the food courts. Mobile shops, supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, Branded showrooms discount their products for employees. Almost free gyms, swimming pools, pools, billiards, squash, badminton, tennis, aerobics facilities with instructors are available. Free clinics and basic medicines, and Pharmacy shops are available in all campuses. Free medical checkups and camps are present that offers regular medical camps under HALE policy. Transport system is excellent where employees have amazingly subsidized and convenient pickup and drop facilities. Best transport system for any large multinational in the country.
Great knowledge management systems put across infosys. education and research department is one of the best in the world. words fall short to describe how amazing infosys leverages its training methodology.
If you are a hard worker and have ambitious plans to go abroad and work then Infy provides onsite opportunities to all who stay put and committed towards the company.

Cons

Recent policy changes have made it difficult to work. Internet usage policy is so restrictive that one get demotivated when they start their work day. Compulsory work hour averaging policy does takes its toll and makes life difficult for employees who are self motivated and always stride to finish their work fast, so that they can devote enough time to personal life. IMO this work hour averaging is present so that Infy can 'manage' its subsidized infrastructure.
The promotions are a social affair in this company. They are given on need basis by management. When they cannot give an onsite opportunity they give promotions so as to please the employee. Needless to say that employee lose any motivation to put in the hard work because of social structure of the policies. Such wage hikes and promotion policies promote lethargy and inactivity across a large workforce that results in less efficiency.
If you are in the company, then you will get least jumps in the salary. If you are recruited from outside then they will give you a better package. However, after joining you will join the ranks of existing employees hikes.

Advice to Management

Founders of this company laid a great foundation with Vision, Values and mission. The company achieved a lot at its peak and its still an IT bellwether. However it lost its steam after financial crisis and other IT competitors have surged ahead with lower pricing and margins.
Hope you guys also put up a strong fight in bringing meaningful projects and work for 25-30% bench population! So much under-utilization is not helpful for anyone.
Please not only try to retain keep key employees but also enforce punishment for under performance of employees. So that the larger workforce does not have to bear the under performers.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Infosys full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Good campus' with almost all facilities anyone can ask for
    - Brand value, that still is good
    - Started to focus on products, platforms and solutions for next phase of growth that is good (will be interesting to see how it works out / executed though).

    Cons

    - Quite a few changes in top mgmt recently, probably becoz of which new wins have slowed down a lot
    - Too much focus on maintaining margins by CFO/top mgmt, due to which new wins are instead going to TCS, cognizant
    - Inflexible policies like 9.25 work hours, certifications, no powers given to managers even for claims reimbursement (any exception needs to be approved by CFO office), no realistic work from home option (when other companies are pursuing this actively)
    - Variable pay components (there are 3 variable pay components, BTW!) of total salary is too high compared to other comapnies like TCS, cog etc, even for non-mgmt / junior-mgmt.
    - Variable pay is given in the range of 50% for many quarters by now, which makes take home salary significantly lesser than shown on paper. This is even though profits are increasing. Which is not the case with competitors.
    - Too much cash reservers which is not being put to good use
    - Unfriendly top mgmt (as seen in recent town halls meetings after no hike declaration)
    - No transparency on how variable pay %s are calculated.... so many times was this qn asked to mgmt and its a generic answer everytime that "its depends on how much we exceed the targets"

    Advice to Management

    - Make some EE-friendly policies and have trust in EEs instead of listening to HR-head and making EE-unfriendly policies, at the time when other companies are making EE-friendly policies.
    - Decrease the variable pay portion alteast for non-mgmt/junior-mgmt levels
    - Make the variable pay % calculation transparent.. currently it looks like target is set to achieve 20% growth, but since only 10% growth is being achieved, variable pays are being given as 50%??
