I worked at Infosys full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1. Good for the first 1-3 years of your career to brush up your skills and learn the IT culture
    2. Good office transportation to and fro work in all India locations.
    3. Variety of food options in the many food courts in campus
    4. Lush campus with various employee facilities like Gym, in house courier services, bank ATMs, etc

    Cons

    1. Low salary, even compared to other local IT companies
    2. Unclear career path and unclear policies for promotions.
    3. Transfers between DCs are discouraged unless you have a "dying" reason
    4. Performance reviews are unclear, and getting a good rating usually does not translate to anything meaningful - both in salary hike (you get just 200-500 Rs/month more than the lower rated individual) and further career opportunities (like onsite, promotion)
    5. Your line manager and other Lower management does not have any power - all they can/will do is give you baseless assurances on employee aspirations which are unreliable and un-trustable. You can consider yourself lucky if those are met.
    6. Senior management does not value employees, it only values the customers and stakeholders. Employees are treated like laborers - extracting maximum work out of them in 9.25 hours in return for nothing worthwhile. They would rather not give hikes/promotions to employees rather than announce lower profits in quarterly results.
    7. The internal technical and domain/process certifications that an employee has to take every year is a joke. It lacks basic standards to test an individual's knowledge on the subject. Till recently, certifications were tied to promotions and eligibility to get a high rating - which was unfair to the deserving employees.
    8. Even though the company has 1.5L employees now, it still relies on and enforced 10-20 year old outdated policies - which do not work in today's market. The management is very defensive about the policies blindly instead of trying to change them to suit today's world.
    9. The HR team is not effective at all with the employees. They only exist to uphold the policies set by senior management and shun away employees who come to them hoping for a change.
    10. Last, but not least, a candid comment - you have to wear a tie every Monday and Tuesday all throughout the year except the summer months. You will look like a salesman, and you cant do anything about it.

    Advice to Management

    1. Give respect and power to employees; support and encourage their needs & aspirations so that they feel valued. A good HR team to motivate and indulge employees is very much needed.
    2. Have a career growth plan based on performance (and not on seniority or other factors).
    3. Have a strong & fool-proof performance review process in place. Measure performance only on employee achievements and pro-activeness, not on other unimportant factors.
    4. Have a yearly exercise to fire off consistent non-performing employees so that the company does not have dead weight and can grow more healthily.
