I have been working at Ingles Markets full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you can get into a good department where the employees work well together, the job can be good and fulfilling, and there is the potential for good paying positions.

    Cons

Relies heavily on the "Good Ol' Boy" system; management doesn't have any clue what they are doing, nor the proper training; departments are treated differently in regard to fairness/favorites; employees work 12-hour shifts and finish their work, but are wrote up for "leaving without permission" while other employees are absent for ten days without leave and are not fired.

    Advice to Management

Proper education and training would be a good idea, so that the management personnel are actually more capable of doing their jobs than regular hourly employees; fair and equal treatment of all employees, with consequences commensurate with their actions.

I have been working at Ingles Markets full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very laid back when it comes to store management. They look for people who want to work, the more you are willing to work, the more they will work you. Even as a part time employee, you have the potential to work full-time hours. Very easy to learn your job, even with the little training that you may receive. If you decide you want to advance, just be a go getter and be self motivated. The less they feel they have to train you, the more inclined they will be to promote you.

    Cons

Corporate does not really seem to grasp what people in the stores actually have to deal with . Impossible tasks at time, especially for front end management. Pay rarely is equal to what you have to deal with on a day to day basis. One evaluation a year, and a base raise rate of $0.25 a year?!? Now with their recent expansion of their warehouse at the corporate office, people aren't even getting that!

    Advice to Management

This is to UPPER management, such as District managers and VP's. Your store managers work LONG hours (at least mine does) and yet you want to squeeze more out of them. Your managers can't be in 5 different places at once.
