Approves of CEO

Pros

different division may have different cultures and different style of management. Jobs are mostly routinary, and can be boring most of the time. A very good start for the actuarial profession.

Cons

promotion is not that often, and opportunities are limited. Jobs largely related to ensure data quality, can be very boring.

Advice to Management

management are very competent, but need to be more innovative and constructive in coping with the change in the insurance industry.

    Pros

Very good stock options plan. A positive work environment. A great location if you want to be near New York City but don't want the hassle of going into the city every day.

    Cons

The job can be boring but that can't be changed as it is all about insurance data which will never be too exciting.

    Advice to Management

Take more notice of the accomplishments of all employees, not just those right below you. Make sure that the Directors relay this info to you.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Flex-time, educational reimbursement program, training resources (online courses, in-house courses, etc.), extremely laid back environment

    Cons

This is where people come to (a) launch their career and (b) die. The company is a great place to work if you just graduated college and are looking to be in a learning environment. In most groups, the work is boring but you may find more interesting positions in IT, not the business areas. Many of the people are older (40+) and have worked at the firm for 20+ years. Most of the managers, AVPs and VPs are promoted to that point after 20-40 years of service. You'll be waiting your life to get to this level. A common strategy is to start at ISO (and take advantage of the training and educational incentives), leave the company, then come back.

It should be inferred that the compensation is below the market, given you are able to come in as you are, whenever you want and don't have to work more than 20-40 percent of the day most of the time.

    Advice to Management

You know that in about 5-10 years many of the most senior people in the business areas will be retiring or cashing out and therefore, you should prepare the next line of ISO associates (sr.), managers, AVPs and VPs; that is unless you feel they are so incompetent that you would look outside to fill those positions.

Your employees - perhaps many, not all - are valuable assets which you have obviously used and abused over the last 5 years.
