I worked at InterContinental Hotels Group as a contractor (More than a year)

Pros

They pay is great, your colleagues are great, there is a team mentality, and it's a great space in a beautiful location.

Cons

Service industry hours are tough, scheduling was always a problem (especially with the high-turnover rate of managers/supervisors).

Advice to Management

Make the mid-level management positions more appealing so that you can hold onto talented people!

I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This company's major asset is that it offers good benefits; in addition, being a large company, it has a lot of momentum and it will take a long time for the company to completely sink. There are a lot of opportunities to gain experience in various software programs.

    Cons

This company suffers greatly from lack of leadership; too often the plans are laid without sharing the goals with staff members, leaving them to try to figure out how to get to an unknown destination -- very frustrating. In addition, this company talks a very good game about "Doing the Right Thing," "Show we Care," "Aim Higher," but fails to follow through in actuality. Advancement is difficult if not impossible if you aren't part of the "good ole' boy" network.

    Advice to Management

Create a structure that will deliver the desired result, then find the right people to fill the structure -- stop trying get there by placing people you "like" in a hodge-podge of jobs, which results in gaps and overlaps and necessitates a "restructure" every 18 months because the current environment still isn't delivering.

I worked at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Set schedule. Gained experience with in hospitality field. Great F&B Director, he is probably the only honest and dedicated worker in this location. Staff is very friendly. Great place to start a hospitality career.

Dont expect to succeed if you work hard and stand out due to your accomplishments. Being successful in this location means putting a target on your back. Its as if upper mgmt. fears you will take their position and there for they behave unprofessionally while trying to push you to quit.

Its ironic that they prefer you don't succeed so you don't over-shine them. Very disappointing.

    Cons

No room for growth, and no flexibility. Salary is low compared to industry standard. They are very comfortable with how they work and don't find smart ways to evolve and grow. You see some employees in upper management behave inappropriately and unprofessionally.

    Advice to Management

Need to clean house. Too many people with bad habits in upper mgmt.
