Pros

160 hours of PTO, 9 paid holidays which works out to 30 days paid vacation, just as long as you don't try to use this on month end or popular holidays

Cons

Terrible management, especially HVAC performance. Terrible morale issues, The technicians know that they are just doing whatever they can to produce regardless of quality. Its all about month end revenue. The manufacturers hate the place, and do not like traveling to economic depressed cortland ny. If you are a new engineer out of college this might work for you because you do not know anything different yet, But to the experienced engineer this place is a joke. and more like office space. Stay away if you can help it. The pay is terrrible for what you do, and the pressure for revenue is rediculous. The petty crap that is allowed to happen there just flushes out the good employees and all that is left is the garbage and socially inept. I have never experienced anything so horrible in my proffesional life and I have been in the industry for 12 years.

Advice to Management

Get rid of the good ole boy managers, pay your engineers and technicians better, perhaps the turn over will not be 50 percent for engineers and technicians. This is the truth people. Nimer get rid of the old managers and put some new blood in there.

I worked at Intertek full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great learning experience as far as working with worldwide safety standards. Working there builds excellent background knowledge in an area of engineering that not many people have experience in.

    Cons

No support from anyone. No one takes the time to sit down and explain things to you. Not enough time is provided to adequately complete projects which causes everyone from sales to the reviewer to have to take short cuts.

    Advice to Management

Concentrate a little more on "SAFETY certification testing" rather than rushing projects just to be able to "bill" at the end of the month.

    Pros

Managed very large account with very little oversight.

    Cons

Sales strategy changed on a weekly basis, people were treated disrespectfully, and there was no formal review process. Was given no notice and let go 4 days before xmas without any formal warning. Apparently this happens every year so the top execs. can cut cost to ensure a higher profitabiltiy so they could get their bonus.

    Advice to Management

Try to be more inclusive and reach out to people who are different i.e. women, minorities, etc. A company with a bunch of white male engineers is an antiquated model.
