I worked at Intuit full-time (More than a year)

Pros

10% Personal time for innovative projects
Lots of training

Cons

Architect role is almost a technical lead and managerial role, particularly in functional teams.
Too much plugged into day to day development cycles as a an agile resource.
Product development technical innovation is slow.
Very little interaction with senior level management.

Advice to Management

Support and encourage architects. Too much support for engineers at the expense of architects

I have been working at Intuit full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

nice coworkers. pays well if you only care about salary not stock.

    Cons

Managers come from the Proctor and Gamble/General Electric mold and are allergic to an innovative software culture. They brand themselves as innovative and agile but its totally a "yes man" shop with endless meetings. They even scold engineers about their "personal brand" should they be bold enough to express an opinion. Ever been to a 40 person hour long "scrum"? Enough said.

    Advice to Management

get more technical. selling dated software isn't going to work as well as selling dated laundry detergent brands.

I worked at Intuit full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Performers do get recognized and the company is generous with rewards and bonuses
    - Great products - particularly turbotax; other products are trending to mediocrity
    - An excellent work-life balance
    - Excellent benefits

    Cons

    - Questionable leadership ethics - colluding with other Valley companies to block employee mobility led me to spending more time here than desired
    - Sub-cultures within the company - particularly at the Plano/Texas office run by incompetent, tenured "made-men"
    - Too many management consultants not in touch with Valley culture or technology and who do not speak English - only Powerpoint

    Advice to Management

    - If you believe in Integrity without Compromise, live by it - do not collude with eBay or Google to prevent employee departure
    - Hire technically savvy leaders with a track record of product innovation and only such managers
