Pros

Ipsos UU is a good place to work if you are interested in qualitative market research. The pay is not superior to jobs at other qualitative companies, however it is pretty standard. The work environment is pretty laid back as well. The Project director role is ideal for someone who is just starting out in the market research business and wants to get exposure to big-name Fortune 500 CPGs companies.

Cons

The pay is nothing to write home about. Opportunity for advancement is there, but will take a while to get to the position you want to achieve. Also, the management and HR culture can be evasive when communicating with PDs.

Advice to Management

HR needs to be more organized, can be frustrating at times. UU management is solid, but not always direct or upfront about expectations or changes within the company

    Pros

-Plenty of training provided for entry level
-Professional environment, but employees still joke around at the right time
-Can pick up a lot of experience within a year or 2
    -Teamwork is big

    Cons

-Very poor in terms of career development
-Poor communication from upper management at times
    -Underpaid compared to competitors
-After a long time in entry level, there's a real lack of challenges

    Advice to Management

Need to work on retaining employees. When morale is down, there need to be ways to fix it. Career development is crucial and many people are unhappy about the lack of action taken.

    Pros

-Well known company in Market Research and in Copy Testing.
-Is an excellent place to start and stay for a few years.
-Formal Employee Training is one of the core competencies of this company.
-Senior Management and Execs make an effort to communicate to employees.
    -Laid back environment.
    -Flexible hours.

    Cons

-Survey Research may be redundant or limiting to some.
-Salary for more technical/analytic positions is below average for the industry, which is why they have frequent turnover in that area.
-Although the environment is Laid back, there seems to be a bit of tension between departments (operations, project management, research analytics, data processing, client service), mostly due to employees not understanding each departments function and work. In fact, sometimes there is a confusion of roles in other departments.
-Many in middle management an client service lack the functional knowledge necessary to excel at the job, and it shows to the client. Clearly they are more interested in hiring Client Service folks who are sellers rather than researchers.
    - Day to day technology and process improvement is desperately lacking.

    Advice to Management

If you continue to settle on "sellers" rather than researchers, and keep paying marginal salaries, you'll keep getting only mediocre results. If you're going to setup shop in areas like New York and CT, you need to recognize the cost of living in these regions is higher and pay accordingly.
