Pros

If you land in the right group, the people are fantastic.

Cons

There is no defined process for many of the departments here. There is a lot going on, but it is tough to identify anyone who can define how a process works or a policy is carried out. Organized chaos, because somehow things appear to be getting done, but on the back end, you truly never know who is doing what at the company. Very frustrating environment to get these rolled out, and a lot of people nay-saying before they understand what they are so passionately saying no to. Not enough room for growth or true developmental change.

Advice to Management

Listen to the people you have working under you and pay them what they deserve...not spending that money on the consultants you bring in to same the same thing, yet still get nothing accomplished.

    Pros

Great Teamwork, Bonus Structure, Salary, Leadership, Organized, Front Line friendly. Open door, free to discuss anything without backlash.

    Cons

None really, maybe upper management is like a Elite Club hard to break in to. But basically they are all level headed and good hearted family people.

    Advice to Management

Get back to basics of CS. Too many micromanaged matrix reports.....

    Pros

The company has a rich history, showing you what a great company it used to be. Also, there are free flu shots.

    Cons

Ever since the Hedge Fund Elliott Management began to assert their influence on the Iron Mountain Board of Directors in 2011, the company has ceased to be a moral place to work. Since that time, our old CEO Richard Reese was forced to retire, and a financial engineer was installed as our new CEO (Bill Meaney). The new CEO and Hedge Fund owners are working to turn Iron Mountain into a REIT; using us a pass through vehicle for profit while they hollow us out.

There is no longer appropriate investment in systems and no longer investment in people. The money that would go to providing customers with a high quality service are now being used to structure the balance sheet for maximum profits; which are then funneled through to the executives and the Hedge Fund. Effective third-party vendors are being jettisoned in favor of cheaper and less functional internally created programs and systems. Stop outsourcing all of our IT and data resources to India.

There are fewer people doing more work. CDE, BDE, and Sales Personnel are being squeezed; forcing more of their support work off on a Customer Service team that is already crushed. Our service teams are suffering 50-60% turnover during the last three months. Call focus and issue resolution is now more about speed in closing requests, than in actually providing quality service. All of the good quality service managers that are left from the old-days are slowly being forced out, replaced with metric-driven micromanagers who act in a wildly irresponsible ways. As a Service Associate, you may find yourself carefully working through breaks and lunches unpaid, because you have been given more work than you will be able to complete. This is true, especially if you have a chance to work in the Medical Vertical or Shred Team.

There are so many cons to working here now. The cost of benefits through Cigna has skyrocketed. The pay raises are almost non-existent. The occasional "morale-boosting" events such as giving out free lollipops hurt more than they help, reminding the Service Team how little their efforts are valued. Iron Mountain made the conscious switch from increasing sales by providing top notch service to cutting costs by cutting corners. We have stopped caring about the quality of customer service and focused on milking fees from the customers.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Bill Meaney as CEO, dump Ted Antenucci from the Board of Directors, and stop hollowing out and selling off everything that made Iron Mountain great in your quest to make Iron Mountain into a REIT. Focus on helping your employees provide excellent customer service and stop forcing us to cut corners.
