I worked at Ivy Tech Community College part-time (More than a year)

Pros

The pay was decent, and the work was very easy and sometimes even rewarding.

Cons

You can never get more hours than what you're given. I could never get more than 24 hours per week. It can also be a little stressful helping a few of the students, although most were polite and respectful.

I have been working at Ivy Tech Community College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Teaching online is great--high pay per hour once you figure system out
Nobody cares about what you are doing as long as no complaints generated.

    Cons

Workload varies by semester--distant program directors determine courseload.
Secretaries and IT idiots audit your syllabi and online classes.
Management could not care less about adjuncts other than using them to make profits.

    Advice to Management

No pay raises for adjuncts in years, and now a 3-course maximum due to Obamacare! Once you take us on, take care of us instead of treating us like peons. I have been forced to add someone else as a fake employee just to get enough courses to stay financially solvent, and that has taken way more effort than was really justified.

I have been working at Ivy Tech Community College full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

With only ~70 people in the centralized IT organization, employees get to work on numerous projects of high importance to the college at a whole. With over 830,000 active users, you get to work on systems at a scale rarely seen in the State of Indiana.

    Cons

Despite the larger number of students, the College lacks the financial resources of the state universities. Lack of available funds can delay the ability to complete some projects at a given speed.
