I have been working at J. C. Penney part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

* Most employee's and managers are nice and easy to work with.
* generous store discount.
* understanding if a few minutes late.

Cons

* Difficult to make plans. Schedule is changed on a daily basis sometimes.
* Expected to work over scheduled shift at last minutes notice, working 10+ hour shift.
* Low pay / sometimes barley any hours
* Very dirty store
* Communication issues.
* Was told at interview, "Hours are based on performance." Not true at all!

Advice to Management

Quit making it difficult for employee's to have a life outside of work. There needs to be more communication between the managers, leaders, experts, cashiers, etc, etc..... Everyone needs to be on the same page about store standards. Recognize employees because they work hard not because of the credit apps they get.

    Disapproves of CEO

    I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Some good people and a lovely building (Home Office).

    Cons

    Too many to list. Job titles mean nothing. There is no org chart nor are there plans for one. Performance reviews have been abolished. With no goals or performance indicators how on earth is an employee to advance other than sucking up? Strong preference for external hires even when great people already there could do a better job.

    Advice to Management

    You have to give people hope that they can advance. Or maybe jcp only wants to hire from outside and keep awarding huge signing bonuses.
