I worked at J. C. Penney part-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Had the opportunity to learn many aspects of the retail field. Was flexible with scheduling. Supervisors were great and communicated well with employees. Employees were great people and we were a family.

Cons

JCP has undergone many changes in the past 3 years. The most difficult part was constantly adjusting to the changes and the expectations. Sometimes there was not enough hours available to get the job done right.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The extra benefits are fantastic. Between the employee discount program, the accrued paid time off, and flexibility in scheduling, JCPenney is a great company to work for. As a sales associate, you are given the freedom and autonomy to make decisions with customers without a managers approval. For sales associates, it is great to be trusted. As a manager, it means you can focus on bigger tasks than returns without a receipt. When working on sets, you are given company guidelines, but have the freedom to interpret them in the best way for your store. As someone with a huge amount of creativity, this was amazing.
This company really cares about what associates think and ask often. There have been many policy changes that have come about as a result of associate polls. It is nice to know that they listen.

    Cons

The only thing to watch out for in JCPenney, is the opportunity for advancement. If you would like to move up, you need to be ready to relocate at the drop of a hat, or you will be passed up. Also, make sure to speak up frequently.

    Advice to Management

The only advice to upper management is to make training more consistent across all stores, so that the entire country gets the same JCPenney experience. One thing that would help with this is to work out all of the kinks in new technology before releasing new technology.
