J.Hilburn taught me to push myself, but not in physical metrics like the heftiness of my work load or how many projects I could balance. My career had already done that. J.Hilburn taught me how to grow. The past tense verb “taught” is very important here, because I truly believe that everyone can learn how to be a genius in their field. Being a genius at J.Hilburn means finding your task, finding people you admire and finding it within yourself to accept that you are now at the bottom of the food chain. The type of humbleness that accompanies this type of thinking allowed me to truly grow. It allowed me to see past my own judgments and admire that of the world around me – both perspectives I agree with and ones I disagree with.
