I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Best spot for a private banking analyst to learn from the best and be in a very structured program. If you are willing to go above and buying people are willing to really help you out and teach you the tricks of the trade. Being a holistic bank allows you the chance to learn not only about investments but credit and lending, trust and estate planning and wealth advisory.

Cons

Given analyst and associate programs are a three year hard stop if you are good enough to stay all the way through to banker you now have age against you.

Advice to Management

Think about making the associate program length more flexible. Some internal transfers to new cities might be very successful and have a high ceiling but need an extra year or two to develop a network without worrying about getting cut loose. Set proper compensation expectations with people at the banker level and above.

I worked at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Worked with some of the smartest people I've ever met. Decent pay, 4 weeks paid time off, all holidays and good health benefits.

    Cons

90% of Dilbert cartoon material comes directly from JP Morgan. Without embellishment. Had to endure some of the most miserable backstabbing management on the face of the planet. Your co-workers value your contribution. Management is rewarded by climbing the pile of the bodies of their slain underlings. Your peers recognize your effort. Management treats you like an expendable commodity. Most of the smart people I worked with ended up quitting for better opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Quit treating your people like galley slaves.
