I have been working at J Sainsbury full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Flexible, ability to move cross functionally

Cons

Quite stuck in its ways, lots of old timers making progression quite hard in certain areas...

I worked at J Sainsbury full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work was varied, physically active and reasonable. Hours were flexible. Customers are friendlier than other retailers.

    Cons

Poorly organised Team Leaders who lacked discipline. Wages too low vs profitability. Too much focus on availability over sustainable procurement (i.e. Shipping asparagus in from Peru for 10 months a year.). Does business with the state of Israel. Stocks Nestle products. And the rest, I could go on.

    Advice to Management

BE BOLD. The food industry has to change, Sainsburys could lead the change.

Stop shipping produce from around the globe, focus on local seasonal produce. Beat Abel & Cole at their own game.

Don't conduct business with companies or in countries with questionable ethics.

Make sure all employees, contractors and suppliers earn a living wage.

Work with other food giants to develop a globally sustainable food system.

OK, so the last step is a biggy! But you get the picture.
