I have been working at Jacobs full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Hires older, experienced personnel. Strong emphasis on safety. With a government assignment, the work load is not overly intense.

Cons

Pay and benefits tend to be less than that in heavy manufacturing. Not much opportunity for promotion or advancement for older personnel.

Advice to Management

Adjusting pay upward would reduce turnover and promote allegiance. Of course, with the current economy, many are content to just have a job.

I have been working at Jacobs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Jacobs Technology is a company who realizes that its employees are its best attribute. As a contracting company, they actively recruit and hire subject matter experts across a widely diverse range of skill sets.
Jacobs is also very good to retain its best employees even through contractural term limitations.
Jacobs has one of the best Safety cultures of any company, utilizing its "Beyond Zero" concept.

    Cons

The nature of the business itself - a contracting company. Contracts have limits, which may mean short-term employment opportunities for some.
Many policies and procedures related to management and leadership training are outdated.

    Advice to Management

Take Jacobs Technology to the next level by updating the company's concept on leadership and employee relations to better reflect current industry standards of empowerment and responsibility.

I worked at Jacobs full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Field people are well supported and cared about.

    Cons

Not all management walks their talk. Old values can be good, but failure to adapt to new technology and new ways can also lead to stodgy feel within the organization.

    Advice to Management

Continue to hire younger people with new ideas, then listen!
