I worked at James Hardie full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Compensation, health benefits are more than fair. Personal drive, aggression is usually rewarded. As long as you give management what they need, you can get a lot of freedom in your job.

Cons

Absolutely no planning. Quick and dirty patch-work over permanent fix is encouraged by management. Even technical function is led with shot-sighted mentality. A few powerful people run the place in a very autocratic manner. You need to have a god-father to climb the ladder. The work culture doesn't always encourage collaborative efforts towards common goal.

Advice to Management

Management could listen to her technical staff, at least in technical matters.

I worked at James Hardie full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A market leading company with a chance to work with innovative, intelligent and aggressive co-workers. A lot of energy throughout the organization and very driven to produce results.

    Cons

It is a turn and burn environment. Accept it for what it is and don't anticipate a long run with the company. They turn over highly qualified employees on regular basis. Much of the churn is in response to market/economic cycles, but there is not much of a second chance. Produce and move up or move on.

I have been working at James Hardie full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, competitive salaries, pretense that HR cares. Free-lunch Fridays.

    Cons

No direction, takes the term "self-starter" to an all-time high definition. You either "have what it takes" or you don't.
You're either "in" or your "out", with little to no explanation. Very political and biased organization ran totalitarian style by the few at the top.

    Advice to Management

Do what you tell everyone else to do, live by your own words and hold yourselves to your standards. Treat others as you would like to be treated, not as though they are less superior than yourselves.
