I worked at JoS. A. Bank full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

For the most part, customers are good to work with. Due to the company's ridiculous sales promotions in recent years, however, the quality of customers who shop at the stores has declined.

    Cons

The management of this company is incompetent. They have no experience working in a retail environment and make decisions that impair the ability of sales personnel to do their jobs effectively and destroy employ morale. Furthermore, they know nothing about marketing. The only way they know how to sell merchandise is to discount the price of their clothes to bargain basement levels, advertise the sales to the world, and hope that throngs of people flock into their stores to purchase. They don't seem to understand that not everyone likes their clothes.

The net result is that their earnings declined 20% last year. But they claim that was due to the fiscal cliff, the election, hurricane Sandy, and warmer than normal winter temperatures. They are clueless.

    Advice to Management

Step aside and let new management take over -- management that understands the industry and does not think it has to mark up marchandise to unrealistic price points and then have 70% off sales to sell anything.

I have been working at JoS. A. Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Absolutely no pros unless you are a manager of a store. Even then the pay is not up to standard. Discounts are just about the same as a customer can get during a sale.

    Cons

There are too many to list here from managers making up their own prices to inflate sales, to berating associates. Think of your worst employment stories and they probably will apply here too!

    Advice to Management

Pay up to standard for your managers and asst. managers
