I have been working at John Muir Health full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

John Muir seems to be making right decisions to provide high quality affordable health care by investing in information technology, state of the art physical plants, and focused on staying as a highly respected hospital by the community it serves

Cons

Walnut Creek and surrounding areas are expensive to live mainly due to high cost of real estate. Administration is too diffuse and recognition for good work is slow.

Advice to Management

Too many top level positions whose contributions are difficult to asses;

    I worked at John Muir Health as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Get to see a lot of things of aspects of medicine that you normally don't normally think to purse. Get to see the myriad of paperwork required to run medicine.

    Cons

    You don't always work for your first choice department. Although still eye opening, some interns are placed in the shipping area where patient contact is limited. Albeit, any position does provide learning opportunities depending on how you deal with it.

    Advice to Management

    Very well run internship program for the students.

    Pros

    JMH is an excellent place to gain good experience as a new RN (<3 years experience) especially in the Surgery Department where there are 13 rooms and multitude of specialities to be exposed to.

    Cons

    The staff rotation, we employ a lot of travelers year round to supplement our staff, training them over and over again can get tedious. And the vast about of various surgeries performed, it can become very challenging keep up to spend with each case. You become a Jack of all trades but Master of none.

    Advice to Management

    Finding a permaent PM charge RN that is fair and understands the demands of the 12 shift RN.
