I worked at John Sisk & Son

    Pros

None. Don't do it. It's a scam. Save yourself.

    Cons

I knew it was too good to be true when they sent me a check for $4550 just to open up an office where I lived and already gave me my first weeks check when they didn't even know my age. I could have been 12! But I tried it, I tried to believe that it wasn't fake. I went to deposit the check to see if it was real, and now my bank account is being shut down! Don't trust these people.

    Advice to Management

How about don't scam people? I mean, I have no management experience but I don't think ripping people off is a good quality.

I have been working at John Sisk & Son full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company supports a lot the graduate engineers and QSs, the scheme is very well structured and everyone takes the chance to learn a lot about the construction industry and how it operates. The company has a diversified portfolio of projects and the graduates can earn experience both from small projects with small, robust teams and big iconic construction projects with big teams. In addition to that, the company... provides the opportunity to be exposed at different roles, from engineering to design management, planning and pre-construction.

    Cons

Work-life balance is a big issue in this industry and this company sometimes, although effort to improve this have been made the last two years. Sometimes people have to work at the weekends in order to keep on track with deadlines. No overtime is paid in general, however the company compensates the people that work away from home with a lodging allowance + expenses from/to site and company trips are covered.... Another big issue is that the graduates have to re-locate every 6-9 months but that is normal as you sign a contract with this in mind.

    Advice to Management

The CEO has taken initiatives to improve the work-life balance, such as the early Friday (people leave their jobs at 15:30). Things seem to move at the right direction. If I was running the Excelerate Scheme, I would reduce a little bit the number of people recruited. This way, I would be able to manage them properly by allocating them in projects for more time (annual placements) and trying to diversify more the... roles that they undertake at these projects.
