Approves of CEO

I have been working at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

APL has very interesting and important work, a great atmosphere, and a highly committed staff who belive strongly in their work and enjoy their fellow employees.

Cons

The organization is a bit too stove piped and communications both vertically and horizontally are not as efficient as they should be.

Advice to Management

Management has overly emphasized cost containment for the past 4 years and it has gotten to the point where it has begun to affect staff morale. A bit more balance is needed .

I have been working at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I like working at JHU because there is a lot of emphasis on personal growth and building a skill set. I am at the bottom of the totem pole, so I do a lot of basic work that I am overqualified to complete, but overall, this is a good first job experience.

    Cons

Hopkins is a highly-regulated machine, so perks that exist in a smaller office just don't materialize here. There are a lot of rules and regulations around everything from vacation time to documentation of just EVERYTHING.

    Advice to Management

Foster more social opportunities for staff so that the job is more of a personal investment
