Pros

This is a great teaching hospital. You will definitely learn a lot while working here. They also have great healthcare benefits and generous tuition reimbursement.

Cons

They do not pay well at all. I believe Johns Hopkins is the lowest paying hospital in Baltimore,MD

Advice to Management

    Pros

The institution itself is phenomenal and you have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with some really brilliant people. If you take initiative, you are given the opportunity to learn and work fairly independently. The prestige of the institution is widely recognized.

    Cons

Hopkins often feels too large and incredibly decentralized. If you decide, as an employee/new hire, to work hard and take on new tasks and challenges, you should be prepared to not see any increase in title/pay. Hopkins often allows good employees to take on more and more responsibility without appropriately acknowledging them. When it is a busy time of year, things are absolutely chaotic. The institution, specifically leadership, is very traditional and youth is discreted in the sense that colleagues can be very condescending to younger employees.

    Advice to Management

Work hard to inspire and motivate talented and hardworking employees. Crack down on the culture of "passing the buck" and delegation of tasks to inappropriate employees. Hold people in management positions accountable for the professional development of their teams.

I have been working at Johns Hopkins University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You have your own office on a beautiful college campus. The work environment is relaxed and you'll enjoy good benefits, a gym, a pool, and squash, racquetball & basketball courts just a short walk from your office.

    Cons

Busy times are REAL busy. Not so busy times are REALLY not busy. Regular work schedule during summer when campus is empty. Days can get monotonous in an office by yourself. If your predecessor doesn't leave you with a step by-step guide to how different procedures, you will be forced to rely on the help of your very busy colleagues in a similar position. This is because your manager is a faculty member/researcher and does not

    Advice to Management

Initiate a legitimate training program or support system for new staff for "Hopkins-specific" processes, covering things such as SAP, faculty and staff hiring procedures, course scheduling, and financial transactions & documentation.
