Pros

Fast paced, start-up environment. Industry leaders. Potential to become involved in many projects.

Cons

Less than great compensation. Poor work/life balance. Over expansion has lead to poor oversight and mismanagement of time and effort.

    Pros

As a Sales Rep. there were great spiffs from time to time.

    Cons

Unattainable sales goals, therefore couldn't make a decent living while they worked you like a dog. Sweatshop mentality with weekly and/or daily "blitzes" where you had to make 60 contacts in 2 hours, do a shout out when you sold something, and got chastised if you didn't all the while management pacing by listening to your pitch and critiquing you. Buried in paperwork like call logs, revenue plans to justify your existence, not to mention the necessary processing of ads. Were always harped on about "time management" when all that it was is Management managing your time. Work load has doubled as they try to convert to an all digital company, exchanging print dollars for digital dimes, all at the Sales Reps. expense!

    Advice to Management

    Get new management.

    Pros

Management knows how to make hay out of their "digital first" vision for publishing. It gives the appearance of being a former down and out company making an edgy comeback.

    Cons

The truth is that the largest revenue generating vehicle for this publishing company is still print . They have yet to develop the revenue model that will turn this "Digital First" company into the "Digital Only" company to which they aspire. This means that the low pay and long hours paradigm of past management is still firmly in place.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like they are the asset to your business that they are instead of budget line items to be cut at your convenience.
