I worked at Joy Global full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Always advancing technology
Good pay *(see cons)
Some really great people to work with (depends on level)

Company vehicle with full personal use
Great benefits

Cons

When times get tough, corporate heads get shifted around and promoted, while the people that make the company tick get laid off.

No regards for the employee's personal life (triple shifts are not uncommon due to "lean" workforce)
If the customer wants it, the customer gets it, with the extra load placed on the employee.

*As field service, you troubleshoot and fix problems that the customer should be able to fix at a rate much lower than if you worked for the customer. (avg underground electrician makes $100k+)

Energy industry, specifically the coal industry depends heavily on the federal gov't, and Obama has stated he will bankrupt the industry! It WILL get worse in the USA.

Advice to Management

Back up your employees. Don't cut the spokes off the wheel.

    Pros

I did work with some great people, the facilities are nice.

    Cons

People, HR lie to you, no communication from upper management, lack of direction from upper management, staff turnover in HR, poorly paid for what I did, absorbed an entire role and no raise or promotion, poorly chosen redundancies. We called it Joyless.
