I worked at KIK Custom Products full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Opportunity to make to decent money (after all the overtime they force on you).
Some decent and hard-working people there on the low end of the ranks.

Cons

Constant last minute mandatory overtime, and followed by being reminded that KIK is an at-will company on a constant basis.
Constant pressure to get entire orders done by the time the company promised it to their customers though being extremely understaffed.
Doesn't value dedicated long-term employees. Seen them fired employees that's has dedicated 10+ years of their life to the company for the smallest mistakes.

Advice to Management

Hire sufficient amount of employees to have work orders done in a the time that you promised to customers, and stop wearing down the short-handed employees that's been working under constant pressure.

    Pros

Older experienced people (before KIK) are competent and knowledgeable.

    Cons

Management doesn't have a clue. Average below 50% reliability (on a good day). They think that the system can work better by doing the same thing and firing someone once in a while when something goes wrong. You are always wondering if you will somehow be blamed for something that goes wrong and might get fired.

    Advice to Management

Do something else in life because you obviously don't know how to manage. They are real good at blaming someone else instead of looking in the mirror.

    Pros

    • Competitive benefits & pension package
    • Acceptable work-life balance
    • Free food provided
    • Coworkers are generally helpful and courteous
    • Location somewhat accessible by public transport (YRT)

    Cons

    • Below-average salary
    • Incompetent management who rules by fear and is afraid to rock the boat
    • Disorganized, chaotic and borderline toxic work environment
    • Little or no room for career growth/advancement
    • Very little investment into cross-training
    • Poor communication and rivalry between departments & plants
    • No mechanisms for feedback
    • Relatively high turnover
    • Weak leadership at the top level

    Advice to Management

    • Pay employees market-rate wages
    • Hire better managers or promote from within
    • Redistribute workload
    • Write more training manuals etc.

I could provide more suggestions but this is futile; most of this will never be implemented. In general, if you are educated and want to build a solid career, this is definitely not the company for you. If you don’t have enough experience/education, if you are making a career transition or just looking for a job to pay the bills, it might work out. However, be on the lookout for new opportunities. Note that many workers (especially younger ones) quit within 1-3 years and move on to something better.
