Out dated and frankly, embarrassing. - Customer Success KPA Employee Review

Pros

Great product and a good chance you sit on a team with some great people.

Cons

I want to be candid about two issues that reflect a deeper problem with how this company treats its employees. First, the current accrued PTO policy is outdated—and frankly, inexcusable. In the last two months, KPA has twice asked employees to donate their earned PTO to a colleague facing a medical crisis. Let’s be clear: KPA could absolutely afford to support an employee in medical need without taking PTO from others who have rightfully earned it. I have never seen a company ask for PTO donations, nor have I spoken with anyone who has. It’s embarrassing as an employee, and it should deeply embarrass leadership. I hesitate to even bring this up because my concern is that, next time, leadership will simply avoid the optics of asking for donations and quietly let someone go—perhaps someone battling cancer. A flexible PTO policy benefits both the company and its people, and it’s time to adopt one. Second, during a recent call, we were coached on how to explain price increases to our customers—while being told there would be no cost-of-living adjustments for employees. That contradiction speaks volumes. It’s not just disheartening; it’s insulting to our intelligence. We all know where that money is going, and it’s clearly not toward valuing the people who keep this company running. If leadership wants to attract and retain talent—especially from younger generations—these practices need to change.

KPA Response

Thank you for the feedback, we appreciate your insights and perspective. KPA takes each piece of feedback seriously, and we do our best to learn from our current and former employees in order to make KPA a great place to work. We are always evaluating the landscape of work, including our PTO policy, in order to provide our employees with the time off they need. There are pros and cons to each PTO structure (unlimited, flexible, and accrued), and to account for the multitude of roles we employ here, we have determined the accrued model fits our need best. Regarding any leaves of absence, KPA is held to strict compliance with state and federal limitations on when and how employees are paid during leaves of absence. To accommodate this, KPA pays 100% for short and long term disability plans to ensure that employees will have a percentage of pay if out for medical reasons. The PTO donation policy was designed to cover instances where other paid leave programs do not offer coverage or to bridge a gap in paid leave. KPA does not discriminate against employees based on medical conditions. KPA’s product price increases are almost always due to reinvestment in the product, including adding additional headcount to our teams, so we can provide more value to our clients. We run an internal compensation analysis on an annual basis to evaluate our market competitiveness when it comes to salaries and total compensation. If you would like to further discuss your concerns with discretion and anonymity, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of the HR Team.
