Cons

They expect you to work long hours.

I worked at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The experience of working for one of the "Big 4" and being able to put that on a resume (makes other companies drool when they see that on paper, for whatever reason(s)). 5 weeks vacation.

    Cons

Oh where do I even begin...the long hours, no such thing as "work-life balance", you have ZERO life outside of work between the months of January and March, very little comradery between you and your co-workers, and you might unfortunately get stuck with a PML, which is basically your boss, who really doesn't commit any time or effort in helping you develop.

    Advice to Management

To the partners, get more involved in your associates lives!!! This felt like one of the most stressful times in my life and I had no turn to.

I have been working at KPMG full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Obsessive focus on clients and business problems. A great way to learn about businesses across a number of industries. Work you like a dog but you learn a lot. KPMG hires smart and energetic people so you will be surrounded by interesting and stimulating co-workers who challenge you to come up with ever more creative solutions to clients' issues. Perhaps the most entrepreneurial culture of any Big Four firm. Great place to build a career if you are a self-starter.

    Cons

Hard work and long hours, especially for management-level folks who do the proposal writing and backstop delivery. Occasional bait-and-switch with bonuses. Partners are stretched so thin that they are unavailable for important meetings. Lots of travel (could be a pro for some). Career paths are not well-defined (especially for those with superior technical skills) and it takes a lot of determination to get the guidance and training needed to advance and keep skills sharp. Budgets for external training are poorly defined and approvals are completely discretionary, which makes it difficult for staff-level personnel to get anything other than internal training.

    Advice to Management

HR and new performance management system (High Performance Culture) suck. Advisory University is a poor substitute for other types of training. Protect training budgets more: training budget is often available when everybody is busy and can't get to training, but it is the first thing to be cut when things slow down and people have more availability for training.
