I worked at Kaiser Permanente full-time

Pros

Benefits are excellent. If you can "fit in", then there are many opportunities, Some pockets of brilliance and innovativeness. Medical care is excellent and often leading edge.

Cons

There ar cliques everywhere - and you either fit in or you are out. Mediocrity and acceptness of the norm are what get you ahead. There are meetings just to be seen and heard and not to be productive

Advice to Management

Don't assume that if someone doesn't fit the "norm" for Kaiser that they are not an excellent worker with much to contribute. When there is a problem, rather than talk about it behind the team or individual's back - work with them to move forward. And finally - walk the talk - and that doesn't mean the latest management jargon/theory - it means support your staff, no double talk - just say what you mean and mean what you say. Ugly ducklings turn into beautiful swans when you give them the support that you do all the rest of the flock.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, great salary for a nurse. Union good for maintaining equality. Many various trainings required, and paid to attend these trainings.

    Cons

More and more stressful over the years. Started in 2000, and best job ever for a floor nurse. However, at this time the paperwork (all computerized) has become so numerous and complicated, that you are spending less and less time interfacing with the patients, and more and more time on the computer during your shift just to complete your work.

    Advice to Management

    Please streamline the paperwork!

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good Work/Life Balance but depends upon your direct manager. Great benefits: Pension Plan; Strong Kaiser Healthcare Model creates lots of growth opportunities and career advancement for most people.

    Cons

Often career advancement is based on who you know. Difficult for those who are not good at networking to advance within the organization.

    Advice to Management

Invest more existing employees instead of looking external to fill job openings
