I have been working at Kaiser Permanente full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Good people to work with. Lots of positive people willing to contribute and make a difference. A great breadth and depth of skills within the organization

Cons

Alignment of work is a big issue. Lots of times you may be working on something only to find out that someone at another location is working on the exact same thing. This can be frustrating when the organization is misaligned.

Advice to Management

Get the work aligned and speed up the rate of change. People on the front line are ready for the change but management is dragging it out.

    Pros

    Work life Balance
Large enough to move within the organization
    Some groups offer telecommuting
    Extensive Training opportunities

    Cons

Hard to navigate because of size of organization
Can get "lost" in the crowd
    Career Growth can be slow
Very hard for "outsiders" applying to get a job, need to have an internal source to get a job

    Advice to Management

Improve Communication Skills for employees telecommuting. Many resources have trouble navigating in a virtual work environment.

I worked at Kaiser Permanente full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Kaiser pay is at the top of the scale for RN's. Administrative nurses only make about 5% more than represented (union) nurses though.

    Cons

There is a lot of politics and nepotism at Kaiser. If you get in with the right clique, the promotions and opportunities will be available for you. Also, for a Non-Profit company, Kaiser is always cutting back and pulling a profit. The Non-Profit status is more of a Tax strategy rather than mission to provide low cost care.

    Advice to Management

Try to be less adversarial with the Nurses Union. Abide by the Collective Bargaining agreement right off the bat instead of trying to impose your will and test employees to see if they will contact their union rep. More transparency will lend to a better working relationship.
