I have been working at Kaiser Permanente full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I came to Kaiser Vallejo as a Home Health Travel RN 10 yrs ago. I am a Hurricane Katrina survivor from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I had no earthly idea I would never leave California! After 3 months of my assignment I was approached to consider a full time status as a Kaiser nurse. I gleefully accepted the offer. I was amazed at the advanced medical procedures I would be taught to do in the home setting. I had barely heard of a "wound vac" and several other procedures. I received a great in service on anything new which really increased the confidence in doing my job. I have met many people at Kaiser and enjoy my growing circle of friends. Kaiser Permanente has the best benefits and pay. I was never been subjected to any unions before and see the benefit of working a strong union like the CNA. Since being here, I have moved into another position as an Advice RN. It continually creates new challenges and hones my assessment skills. I look forward to many years as a Kaiser nurse. I proudly tell others where I work, what I do, and ask their opinions of Kaiser.

    Cons

I have difficulty with the Union process. It took a few years to see the advantage as a protection. I do not agree with the management style of the Call Center. After being there for over 7 years, monthly I am subject to monthly meetings with my supervisor. She will throw pages of stats at me and tell me what I am doing wrong. After being in the Call Center this long, it gets to be demoralizing. The overall temperature and comfort is bad. There seems to be a lot of people developing upper respiratory issues. I sneeze usually 2-3 times a shift and rarely sneeze outside the job.
