I have been working at Kaiser Permanente full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great job benefits and great mission, which is mostly what keeps employees with KP. The mission of total health and prevention-oriented care sets KP apart from the rest of the American health care providers that have a pay-for-service business model. The retiring CEO George Halvorson has done a great job in making KP's quality of care and member satisfaction #1 in California and some other regions. The new CEO Bernard Tyson is a great leader and is already addressing the affordability challenges ahead

    Cons

Bureaucratic procedures and processes. Relationships too heavily weighted compared with work deliverable. Outdated technology tools. Competence not appreciated enough in job requirements

    Advice to Management

Value competence and work deliverable as much as relationships in job performance evaluations. Minimize redundant efforts in different groups and reduce/eliminate unnecessary variation of business operational models in the regions - this will be important for bringing cost down.
