Pros

It's a paying job. It is a good place to start to pick up skills.

Cons

Cannot get parts procured sufficiently to complete the work orders that keep rising in amount.

Advice to Management

Worry about correcting problems on hand. Then worry about getting new contracts.

I have been working at Kaman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people are generally good, honest and hard working.
    Salary good.
Well meaning and right intentions, but ultimately don't have the expertise or resources to fulfil promises.

    Cons

Lack of leadership, process and organisation. Expected to manage departments outside of your expertise area.
Warehouse HR processes (eg sickness policy) rolled out to salaried office staff.
Benefits are horrific - 1% pension contribution! No Death in Service. No bonuses.
Manufacturing works on a 'who shouts loudest, wins' basis, which is unsustainable for effective success.
Living hand to mouth, month to month, no sustainable plan in place for a long term vision.

    Advice to Management

The right intentions are there, that is half the battle.
But you now need real leaders in key areas to manage expectation, processes and deliver promises.
This must be addressed or you will trip up before long.

I worked at Kaman full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fast faced environment with a friendly blue and white collar staff. Fellow engineers always willing to help. Solid body of work.

    Cons

Very much a good old boys club environment. Middle and upper management often chosen not based on experience but simply because they were the next in line.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the good old boys club, promote from the ranks based on worth.
