I worked at Kaplan University full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Benefits on first day and free tuition. The best decision upper management ever made was firing my former manager in July 2012. He was the worst and most unhelpful manager I have ever encountered, yet had a huge ego. Upper management finally realized to fire him based on performance and that they shouldn't keep him based on where he was from. That same manager didn't even have a degree, yet his admissioins advisors were expected to have at least a bachelors.

Cons

Management constantly talks down to their employees and everyone is treated like a number. Job is a very low level inside sales job. You need to hit a certain quota every month which constantly changes and if you don't and your not one of managements favorites your fired. Some people are given good leads and some are assigned poor leads, your success will be determined by how much managers like you. Some admissions advisors job roles were changed back in July to
just simply answering the phone with no sales goals. They kept the same pay but had job security because how can you screw up answering the phone. Although many of these phone receptionists quit out of boredom. Constant layoffs and a feeling that you could get fired any day.

Advice to Management

Treat your employees better and to reward employees based on performance. Promotions should be based on job performance and not what country someone is from.

I worked at Kaplan University part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally good students, reasonably decent pay, more relaxed pace with ten-week classes.

Less administrative/grading burden than others (Phoenix, et al.)

    Cons

Rules that change - unlike Phoenix et al, there are no clear and hard and fast rules about student assignment submissions, grading policy, etc. Heaven help you if you're "late" in grading, but students must be "accommodated" at all costs including submitting work weeks late, ridiculous hand-holding of adults, etc.

    Advice to Management

Let the teachers teach, and let them treat the students like adults - compassion, understanding yes, but not bending over backwards so much we break our back.

I worked at Kaplan University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Wonderful co-worker's, descent pay at the time, good benefits.

    Cons

Unstable work environment, rules changed too frequently. You'd be trained over and over again as the policies and job function changed at least every month, sometimes more often. Everything was monitored, measured and evaluated. Big Brother was watching every move. This is a high pressure sales job. Think twice before accepting a position.

    Advice to Management

Some managers really cared , others were all about snagging the sale at any cost, this included compromising integrity and expecting you to do the same.
