I worked at Kellwood full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great managers, steady workload, talented employees, decent work-life balance, excellent benefits package, lots of opportunity to advance and even move to other departments

Cons

Owner screaming over loudspeaker is pretty jarring but he's just and old school garmento and that's the way it goes. The City of Industry building is pretty funky and crowded but nothing to frighten the horses.

Advice to Management

I really think management is great here. There are a few design directors who have an inflated sense of what they're working on, but mostly everyone is an old-school pro.

I have been working at Kellwood full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, flexible hours, clothing discounts for all employees.

    Cons

No salary increases, management slow to respond to industry changes, HR and IT are now small, 401k match below industry average, promotions are based on likeability rather than merit and ability.

    Advice to Management

Provide incentives for career growth. Working hard is rewarded above working smart. This results in good workers leaving the company. Hard workers are good at spinning there wheel and going nowhere, only creating more needless work. Instead, promote smart workers who can increase production and increase throughput without the extra long, unrewarded work hours. The current incentive is to work long hours and produce little. The promoted feel entitled, thus only promoting those who do not challenge the status quo. Promote producers and the remaining workforce will follow or be replaced with producers.

    I worked at Kellwood full-time

    Pros

Clothing discount, casual dress, summer Fridays

    Cons

Last minute changes everyday, causing confusion and the constant fixing of already done work; productivity has plummeted with the continuous corrections that have to be made by the whims of one; hard to concentrate on business when you are going back in time to repeat what you have done already to different people

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging - more work will get done that way.
