I worked at Kemper full-time (More than a year)

Pros

You can move up within the company fairly quickly if there are open positions available. I was able to move up within my first year with the company

Cons

The company merged with Unitrin and with this merger there have been numerous layoffs. I personally was not laid off, however within a year there were two layoffs and two offices to close in various states. With the merger this resulted in more customers, however the company did not see fit to hire more employees to handle the increased customer base, instead they laid employees off. With this increased customer base and the lack of employees to service them, this resulted in heavy workload, which resulted in poor customer service and low morale among the employees.

Advice to Management

Take the time to get feedback from your employees to see where improvements can be made to ensure that employees can do their job effectively, if employees cannot handle the workload due to not enough staff to accommodate your customer considering hiring an ample amount of employees.

    Pros

Flexibility of schedule, paid while studying for your license, product range was affordable for the community that we serviced

    Cons

Pay practices are a bit unfair. Penalized for lapsed policies that were not written by your own pen. Responsible for collecting large amounts of cash at a time, a bit unsafe.

    Advice to Management

Please update collection procedures and allow customers more payment options such as more bank draft options

    I worked at Kemper full-time

    Pros

Competitive Salaries. Welcoming atmosphere. Knowledgeable colleagues who are always willing to help you out. Plenty of time to work on each project. Very reasonable deadlines. A lot of advance notice given about company restructuring. Genuinely cares about the well-being of their employees. Eight hour days with flexible hours. Many learning opportunities.

    Cons

Currently going through a lot of company restructuring. Jobs are not very secure right now. This is a small Insurance company that is unable to compete with giants like Geico, Progressive, etc. Doesn't allow for much upward mobility.
