I have been working at Kemper full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people I work with. The opportunity for advancement if you apply yourself. Good pay. Flexible hours and occasional telecommuting.

    Cons

Some people get promoted because the boss likes them, not based on their skills. Lots of restructuring lately. Lots of rumors about layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep the rumor mill at bay by letting us know what's going on.

"Negative work culture where everyone bad mouths everyone else; constant fear of layoffs"

    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Kemper full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    *Convenient location
*Company will pay for you to get various certifications related to your role (and insurance in general)
    *Decent benefits
    *Wear jeans on Fridays

    Cons

*Constant threat of layoffs/replacement by consultants always looms
*Though a lot of this is hearsay, the general consensus is this company doesn't pay nearly as well as most others in the area for similar work.
*A huge number of people are incredibly nasty and condescending; not to your face, but it's almost like high school with the gossipy insults.
*401K isn't vested, at all, until 3 years on job.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to pinch pennies when times are good. This is applicable to personnel decisions, raises, projects, etc. but many of the gripes tie back to the overall frugality.
