Former Employee - Front Desk Receptionistin Hardin, KY
Recommends
Positive Outlook
I worked at Kentucky State Parks part-time for less than a year
Pros
It's a small hotel with not many employees. Everyone gets along really well and all of the departments work together. Working there, I was a front desk receptionist, greeting customers, checking them in and out, and I had a lot of responsibility in the hotel. I made sales, reservations, worked at the Tennis Center, worked in the gift shop, waited downstairs in the dining hall, and even helped design restaurant menus. It's a wonderful work environment if you stick it out. The employees were wonderful to work with.
Cons
Most of the front desk people are hired by Adecco and don't work directly for the park in that sense; seasonal work is common and a lot of workers come in temporarily. The pay is not great, $8/hr. The job requires a lot of responsibility, discretion, privacy and respect for customers. There is also a lot of down time behind the desk, because there isn't much to do in Hardin other than Land Between the Lakes, so there may be hours of downtime with no tasks to complete, no customers, and that's where I would suggest workers who can entertain themselves by reading books or studying or doing something to occupy your time.
