I have been working at Kiewit Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

They get some the the biggest projects around. If it's big and difficult i's probably a kiewit job which allows ample opportunity to learn.

Cons

The fact that you work for kiewit means that kiewit now owns you. Expect 12-14 hr days also your weekends now belong to kiewit. First week on the job i was given a "sunday key" for the job trailer. There was even a banner in a super's office that read, "KIEWIT your bitching!"

Advice to Management

Stop ostracizing your people for leaving the office after 10 hrs

I worked at Kiewit Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A lot of opportunities to grow, work on some of the greatest projects around, continually given more responsibility if wanted, good benefits

    Cons

Low salary compared to other companies, will start new engineers out with more money than you when you have been there for a few years already, expected to move with no questions asked and do it quick, don't care about personal life's, expected to leave vacations early to get to site or meetings, no respect for young engineers. Work/life balance is tough here

    Advice to Management

Be active in the career development of the younger employees because they are the future of the districts. Coach mid level managers as they are just starting into those positions and get big heads quickly and no one will work for them. Show respect for young engineers because y'all were there once also. Don't just assume someone else is looking out for your people take pride in molding them.

I worked at Kiewit Corporation as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Quickly and consistently given as much experience and responsibility as you are willing to assume. They never lay anybody off. Employee Stock Ownership possibilities after about 5 years.

    Cons

They will ask you to move often on very short notice. That is to be expected, as it is the nature of the business.
