I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Educators have amazing resources available.

Cons

Constant flexing of staff, nursing supervisors have far too much authority and constantly overstep their job descriptions. Kindred is often referred to as "the place LVNs go to die". Because a majority of the nursing staff are LVNs, management will threaten them with termination if they complain. Human REsources provides no support whatsoever.

Advice to Management

Experienced upper management should be actively recruited

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare (Less than a year)

    Pros

Possibilities for great learning for new nurses, pay is ok, it's a job when there are not too many available, at least 3 nurses (2 cart/floor 1 desk) on the sub-acute most days/evenings (2 11-7).

    Cons

Very unprofessional all around. Learning would be great if they actually taught, self teaching as a new grad is NOT a good idea. Many nurses who have worked there for a long time are downright mean-they will rush your narcotic count, give you sub-par report-not safe for the nurse or patient. Some nurses will help and answer questions others not so much. Going to work feeling dread at how you will be treated by the staff is awful. CNA's are either great or awful, no in between. Nurse to patient ratio is awful 1 nurse for 22-26 patients. Non-stop work too much to do and not enough time to do it properly. There are some awesome employees but too many awful ones to balance it out.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people, give them a reason to stay, better schedules, get involved and see how your employees are doing, better orientation for new nurses, do not allow work place bullying to occur. So much to fix but it will likely never happen.
