I worked at Kirkland's full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

The associates all worked very hard to please the store manager

Cons

No training.Management constantly lied. Manager always negative to employees. The constant threat is: corporate camera is watching your performance++

Advice to Management

Training, training, training for key holders. "Positive" management style. Remember there are customers in the store during floor moves and corporate needs to be considerate of that fact when placing a time limit on the moves. Being threatened daily with: “corporate cameras are watching” does not present a positive work environment. Hire managers who are not chronic liars.

I have been working at Kirkland's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

met a lot of nice people who were also screwed. Can't really think of anything else, 20% discount if you like cheap items from China

    Cons

Did not inform employees that it was a temporary job until after we started. Hire too many people, Do one wrong thing and your schedule is cut or you are not scheduled. No hope for benefits, will qualify for 401k in like 4 yrs. They want you to only work for them, but don't give you enough hrs to even feed yourself. A lot of stuff is returned due to poor quality.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your employees like theives from day one. they walk you to the door when your shift is over and check your bag and coat. They also send you home early to keep the labor/sales ratio in check, of course the manager gets a bonis for this, at the detriment of the employees.

    I worked at Kirkland's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a fun place to work and some of the people are great to be around, and in most cases it is a laid back company to work for.

    Cons

Not enough time to finish anything. Little compensation for all the work that is put in, and management is told when they can and can't be off.

    Advice to Management

Let the store managers run the store, there is to much hand holding which makes it hard for someone in charge to be able to get a job done. Let the sales stay for a week and not change them every other day.
