I have been working at Kmart full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Many Long Term Associates. Employees very loyal.

Cons

With closures, and realignments, many store managers get shifted from one location to another. In order to survive as an organization the need to bring "new blood". You have shifted failed leaders in one location to another.
Hiring from the outside for Assistant Managers, makes me wonder why they haven't properly groomed and created a bench for people to step up.

Advice to Management

Our company has the lowest dollar per square foot spent in the maintenance and appearance in our stores. I understand that it is necessary to reduce costs, and control expenses, but the customer is telling us what they want, by shopping elsewhere. They want competitive prices, helpful service, in a clean friendly environment.

I have been working at Kmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some good people to work with at the store level. Not much else.

    Cons

    No raises.
    "promotions" don't come with raises.
Many staff members are active drug users.
Shop you way rewars, have to sign up unrealistic numbers of people.
Training has nothing to do with the day to day job.

    Advice to Management

If you don't offer adequate pay for lead and management postions you wil never get good people in those positions.

I worked at Kmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Discount. Store is over priced, so discount on clearance is best of the Pros. A job if you need one REALLY bad.

    Cons

Low wages. Low employee morale. Not all brands of electronics are carried there. Have to push Rewards card.

    Advice to Management

Visit the store on a day you are not expected. You'll be surprised what you see there. I actually approve of the current CEO. I think he's trying to do the right things for the future of the compan,y. I dislike WalMart, but their prices are better than KMart's.
